Just got back from China/Taiwan. I have a million photos to crawl thought but I thought I'd post the Summer Palace ones first.

27 photos this way - sorry they're kind of large! )

Still in China!
Here's a couple pics for now. We're having a super great time. Great Wall, Forbidden Palace, Temple of Heaven and Summer Palace were all epic. I'm even getting a custom chinese-style top made. Pic it up tomorrow. Probably the most epic, for dorks like us was cosplaying at the Summer Palace in the outfits we made.
Still have a day or so left, see you on the other side.

Me, "Cheryll", AJ, "Char" and Judy on the Great Wall.

I think this is my first costume post in like a year! We made Soulless inspired dresses for Dickens Fair last year. And me being me, it was not done in time for Dickens Fair... well it was wearable but all the trim was missing.

I fixed it up over the last month or two and wore it to the Steampunk Con this past weekend.

So, you want to make a Big Daddy (from the video game Bioshock) costume? Well. Hope you quite a bit of time. And a large working area.

If you've ever attended one of my panels, you know my big "thing" about media recreation costuming is stressing the importance of proportioning. If each piece of the costume is correct to the source material in relationship to each other, it will look "right" to the audience. If it isn't, you can end up with tragic Bobblehead! Big Daddy, or something similar. I'm also 5'4". Not exactly Big Daddy height.

So, looking at the reference material, I decided that I would go with my leg measurements to base the entire costume on. Especially since the big daddy has rather stubby legs. So, assuming that the top of my feet were at the top of his very tall shoes, and my hips were approximately where his was, my head actually is right at the first row of portholes. Now, I had some math to base the entire thing on. If the measurement from the near the top of the shoes to the first row of portholes is 5'4", what is the measurement from the bottom of the shoes to the top of the suit? SEVEN AND HALF $#$*)@ feet tall eek.

Okay, so here is how I did it... )

We won Best Workmanship!

I just did a quick search on Flickr to see if I could find any group photos of us, but no luck! Will report back when successful.

It's getting down to the wire (eek!) and for a change, the daily supply trip is to home depot and TAP Plastics, rather than Joanns. Nice to change things up, every once in a while.

I just realized I haven't posted these here. Photos for jooooo!!!

You're looking at the Bouncer lying on it's front, with the tanks attached. Eek! Big! Heavy!
